Taking Control of our health is more important than ever these days. It seems that doctors and Big Pharma have one objective…to get us all on prescription medications. Each night we watch TV Commercials about Law firms accusing the Pharmaceutical Industry about “Medications” that harm and even kill Folks. Yet most dutifully march to the Doctor’s office to get scripts filled with amazing regularity. Many of these prescribed medications come with a litany of side effects that can be more serious than the problem they purport to treat. I’m not a Doctor and I don’t even play one on TV, yet in my experience I’d be popping several daily medications if I took the advice of my physicians. I credit my present Health to shunning this advice and going down a rather different path. Doctors these days rarely ask questions that would give them the information they need to assess someone’s health or the lack thereof. My brother was put on Insulin for diabetes years ago. After taking it for almost 5 years, he changed his diet, followed a rigid eating schedule, and completely weaned himself from it! This was not at the suggestion of his physician, of course. Our doctors receive generous “gifts” from many phamaceutical companies to keep their patients on these meds. I’m not suggesting stopping going to the doctor when someone has a health issue, I’m just recommending that we all use our Noggin and don’t run for the pills at the first sign of trouble.
Starting with the Basics: We’d find that Clean Air and Water are Essential to a Healthy Body

In our home, we filter the air we breathe continually. We use top rated Furnace filters to capture contaminants that would normally blow through our floor and wall registers and into the air we breathe. At my house, we also filter the air with 3 whole room HEPA air scrubbers. We place these units strategically in the rooms where we spend most of our time.
I work in peoples’ homes for a living and see very few homes that take clean air seriously. Indoor air can be many times dirtier than outdoor air and that’s because the outdoor air is cleaned by regular rainstorms, so unless you have those storms inside your home you need to purify the air you breathe.

Water

H2O is another crucial element in a Healthy body. Some people get enough. Others, believe it or not, never touch the stuff!
If you’re drinking tap water, you’d be better off drinking pool water because it has about half the level of chlorine than most municipal water!
Chlorine is BLEACH – that’s the stuff that makes our socks whiter. It’s good for killing germs and keeping our drains smelling fresh but definitely not healthy to drink or bathe in. Chlorine is there to make the water safe to drink. For centuries, wine was used in water in a 3:1 ratio to purify water for human consumption. I think most people would agree that wine would make a better water purifier however, it’s cost prohibitive. Chlorine bleach is cheap and has been in use for less than 100 years. It has made public and private swimming pools part of our lives. When I am served a glass of water at a restaurant that doesn’t filter their water, I won’t drink it because I can smell the bleach the moment it is placed on the table. If you drink bottled water, consider a zero water filtration pitcher, or a whole house water filtration system. These systems deliver clean water with much reduced levels of chlorine, lead, and other harmful chemicals at a fraction of the cost of bottled water. They can purify up to 600,000 gallons of water for a fraction of a penny per gallon. If you’d install one in your home, you’d not only have CLEAN water to drink but you’d also enjoy purified water to bathe and shower in! If you’re purchasing bottled water you’re paying about a hundred fifty times what you’d pay if you’d make your own filtered Water!

Let’s talk Food

Clean, Nutrient Dense food is a vital ingredient in our quest for a healthy body. Shy away from canned and boxed foods. Experts recommend shopping the perimeter of the grocery store. Look for fresh food and expect to refrigerate most of what you eat. Preservatives make food last longer without the need for refrigeration, BUT some preservatives are patently harmful.
Consider adding a fruit and veggie smoothie each morning to your routine – organic fruit and vegetables are obviously the BEST choice. We use frozen organic fruit and frozen bananas which we add to our fresh Spinach and ad a bit of Flax or Chia seed. In the evening, consider a bowl of fresh or frozen berries in place of a sugary dessert. Berries are high in antioxidants and will keep you in tip top shape.  Many folks need their “sugar fix” on a daily basis – BUT – you can retrain your taste buds in short order and if you do, you’ll find fresh berries are not only sweet – but DELICIOUS as well! We frappe our frozen berries in the evening in a Yonanas machine and Enjoy a Cold Creamy Ice Cream-like Dessert.
