We talk, a lot, about the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. And we’ve enjoyed reading (and sharing) many of our customers’ stories. But we’d be a little less than fully truthful, if we didn’t let you in on some of the hyperbaric chamber risks.
Yes, there are some hyperbaric chamber risks, too. But…
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is generally a safe procedure. So, even though complications are rare (especially in mild HBOT, like in our chambers) there ARE some risks. And you should be aware.
Through our research, over the past 5 1/2 years (almost 6 years), we’ve discovered medical professionals who list potential risks like…
- Middle ear injuries: These can include leaking fluid and eardrum rupture due to changes in air pressure
- Temporary nearsightedness (aka: myopia) This can be caused by temporary eye lens changes
- Barotrauma: This is when there’s a lung collapse caused by air pressure changes
- Oxygen toxicity seizures: These can happen from too much oxygen in your central nervous system
- Lowered blood sugar: People who have diabetes treated with insulin should be mindful
- Fire: In certain rare circumstances due to the oxygen-rich environment of the treatment chamber
Now, like we said, those are rare. And we’ve never personally met anyone who’s dealt with any of those issues. But you should know there are risks anytime you use medical devices. And hyperbaric chambers are Type II medical devices. So, we want you to be informed.
And that’s why we spend extra time going over your chamber with you.
Doesn’t matter whether we deliver it personally to you, or you opt to come and get it. Because we want you to know your chamber inside and out. And that’s because you’ll be inside and outside of it. So, it only makes sense. Right?
OK. Now that you know the risks…and you understand they’re rare…give us a call with any other questions you have. Or send us a message. We’ll do our best to make sure you have the best HBOT possible.
The only pressure you’ll ever get from us is in our chambers,
Brian & Jen
